  • International trade scenario revealed that Export share of India’s chickpea was found to be highest to Algeria (19.70 %) followed by Pakistan (12.50 %)

  • Major source of chickpea to India in international trade is from Australia (83.50 %)
  • As there is a huge domestic demand, India is a net importer of chickpea and has a share of about 25 to 28 percent in world chickpea import market.

  • India’s export of Chana was highest during 2013-14 but declined in 2014-15 which can be attributed to the decrease in production when compared to 2013-14.
  • No increasing trend was observed in exports as they were prohibited except Kabuli chana*
  • Imports were found to be significantly increasing for the past ten years as there is a huge domestic demand.
