Package of practices for Red Gram


Soil and Climate Requires wide range of soil form sandy to heavy clay loam soil, with good organic content. For germination climatic condition requires with a wide range of temperature from 200C -400C (300C -350C for better germination).
Land preparation For better tillage practice, opening the soil through soil turning plough or disc harrow followed by the cross harrowing or ploughing with desi plough on or before onset of monsoon.

Rabi Variety: LRG 30 LRG 41, ICPL 41, 332(Abhaya), ICPL 84031 (Durga)
Sowing time & seed treatment Optimum sowing time-mid June to July subject availability of moisture/rainfall. Use of quality seed with assured application of Rhizobium culture and Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria is beneficial. Seed treatment with Carbendazim, Thiram, Thiamethoxam or Imidacloprid.
Seed rate & spacing Optimum seed rate of 15-18 kg/ha. For short duration crops and 10-12 kg/ha. For long duration crops with spacing for short duration (RXP= 50x15 cm), pre Rabi crops (RXP= 30x10 cm), medium duration crops (60x20 cm) and long duration (75x25 cm).
Fertilizer dose 15-20:40-60:20, N:P:K Kg./ha. Is recommended for tur crop
Weeding Application of pre emergence weedicides Pendamethalin (@ 1-1.5 kg/ha.)followed by inter culture operations.
Intercropping Intercropping of long duration Arhar crops with Coarse Cereals, Oilseeds and short duration Arhar crops with Maize, Greengram, Blackgram for risk management.
