Wholesale Price of Wheat in Major Producing States

  • There is a fluctuating trends in the price of wheat during study period (2016-18)
  • For the year 2016 and 2017, the price of wheat started declining from January and continued to remain so till July
  • Further, There is an incresaing trend in the price of wheat from July to November
  • During the year 2018, the price of wheat remained low during january, February, while from the month of March, there is an increasing trend till June. Further, a slight decline was noticed during July and started increasing from August onwards.

  • Differnce between MSP and wholesale piece was very in February and March.
  • In 2018, highest price over MSP was in the on the of November and lowest was in the month of february. Farmers can plan their selling accordingly.

  • From January to August wholesale prices of wheat below MSP in the case of Uttar Pradesh and from August to December, the price of wheat are more than MSP. Hence, it is advised to store wheat during low price and release the stock in a staggered manner for getting better prices.
  • Wholesale price of wheat in Uttar Pradesh remained lower by Rs. 300 less than the national average price during January to August month and remained higher than MSP for rest of the four months. However, the prices of wheat in Uttar Pradesh remained far below the national average.

  • In case of Punjab whole sale price of wheat has been remained near to MSP during first six month of the year. Thereafter slight increase has been found as compare to MSP. However, prices of wheat remained lower than the national average price throughout the year.

After the month of May, wholesale price started increasing and remained so till December. In the month of March and July wholesale price was very close to national average price. A noticeable feature is from July onwards the trends in wholesale prices at national level and state level was same in 2018.

  • Wholesale price of wheat in Rajasthan is showing a continuously increasing trend from January to November. After the month of July wholesale price remained more than the national average price till December.
  • Noticeable feature of Rajasthan wholesale price of wheat is that the trends of wholesale price was same as the national average wholesale



Wholesale Price of Onion in Major Producing States

  • There is a fluctuating trend in the price of onion during study period(2016-18)
  • Price of onion fell down from January to April. Thereafter Price slowly started to increases till July
  • In 2017, a very high increase in Prices of onion was recorded from October to December in 2017
  • But in 2018, very sharp decline in price was observed during January to April.
  • Hence, it is advisable to store onion during February to May, because price remained low in this period and release the stock in a staggered manner for getting better prices.

  • Onion price was highest in the month of January and lowest in May and June

Wholesale Price of Potato in Major Producing States

  • There is no definite pattern exhibited by price of potato across the month during 2016-18.
  • Prices of potato was lowest in the month of February and March for the all three years.
  • Prices of potato reached peak stage during September in the year 2016and 2018, However, during 2017 the prices remained low during this month.
  • Prices remain lowest in the month of January, February and March for all the year under the study.

  • In MP, potato prices remain relatively stable during April to November at Rs. 1000 per quintal in 2018.
  • Prices was lowest in the month of January.
  • The prices of potato were lower than the national average.

  • In 2018, Potato price in Haryana was less than Rs. 500 per quintal in January, but thereafter increasing trend has been recorded till October. Prices reached to about Rs. 1500 per quintal in October, thereafter again prices started declining.
  • Potato price remained lower than the national average prices. But the trends remained same as the national prices.

Wholesale Price of Tomato in Major Producing States

  • There is no definite pattern exhibited by prices of tomato across the month during 2016-2018.
  • Prices remained higher from June to August. In 2016- and 2018 prices remained during August and November, however during this period prices was highly fluctuated in 2017.

  • In Gujarat, Tomato price was remained low at Rs.500 per quintal during January to April but started increasing from till July, thereafter again sharply declined during July to September.
  • In the last four month of the year prices has been remained stable near about Rs. 750 per quintal.
  • In the most of the month prices of tomato remained far below the national average prices but trends remained same as national average.

  • Across the year a high fluctuation recorded in the price of tomato in West Bengal. Prices remained low during February to May. From May onwards prices started to increases reached at highest level among the all states at Rs. 2800 per quintal.

Wholesale Price of Black gram in Major Producing States

  • There was a mixed trend in the price of black gram during the 2016 to 2018.
  • Prices of black gram was lower in 2018 as compared to 2016 and 2017. Price difference between 2016 and 2018 is very high.
  • During 2017, initially price of black gram was high and started declining through the year.
  • In 2018, prices remained stable from March to September at Rs. 4500 per quintal and but during November and December prices was increased slightly high as compared to other month.

  • In 2018, black gram price in Madhya Pradesh was less than Rs. 3000 per quintal during January to June. But thereafter increasing trend has been noticed all the month except September. Prices reached to Rs. 3673 in December.
  • In Madhya Pradesh, black gram price remained far below the national average prices.

  • In Maharashtra, prices of black gram remained low during January to March. But in July an unexpected increase was recorded in the price of black gram, it reached to Rs. 7706 per quintal and again declined suddenly during August. From August onwards price started to increase till December and almost it was on par with national level price.
  • The price of black gram remain lower than the national average price. During January to June, national and state level prices difference was high and the difference narrowed down during August to December.

  • During 2018, high fluctuation has been recorded in the price of black gram in Tamil Nadu.
  • Prices was the highest in the month of July at Rs. 5439 and declined during subsequent months went down to lowest at Rs. 3510 during August.
  • From January to June, price of black gram remained on par with national level prices.
  • However, Prices during August to November remained lower the national level prices

  • In the case of Uttar Pradesh, prices were relatively stable during January to November. Per quintal Price remained between Rs. 3674 to Rs. 4039. In the month of December prices of black gram stood at Rs. 4439 per quintal.
  • Price of black gram remained lower than the national average throughout the year. During January, February and November, the difference in prices was high.


Wholesale Price of Lentil in Major Producing States

  • Prices of lentil do not show any definite pattern across the month during 2016 to 2018.
  • In 2018, wholesale price of lentil remained far below during January to July as compare to 2016 and 2017
  • The prices of lentil were higher during 2016 compared to 2017 and 2018.
  • In 2016, per quintal price was in the range between Rs.6748 and Rs.7906, while in 2018 prices of lentil was between Rs.4383 and Rs.4813 almost half the prices during 2016.

  • In Madhya Pradesh, price of lentil remained low during January to March. From April to December, wholesale price of lentil remained stable.
  • Price of lentil in Madhya Pradesh was far below the national average wholesale price in 2018.

  • In the case of Rajasthan, wholesale price of lentil remained between Rs.3137 to Rs.3609. Highest prices was recorded in the month of August while lowest price in the month of January.
  • Except January and August, prices remained relatively stable throughout the year.
  • A very high difference in price has been revealed between Rajasthan and National wholesale prices.

  • Price of lentil fell down from January to March, thereafter it started to increase with very slow pace till August and price remained relatively stable till November. In December price of lentil again increased.

Wholesale Price of Green gram in Major Producing States

  • There is a fluctuating trend in the wholesale price of green gram during 2016-2018.
  • For the year 2016 and 2017, the price of green gram remained high during January to April, thereafter, prices started decline till August.
  • In 2018, except May, the price of green gram remained low during January to August. From August price started increasing.
  • Price of green gram remain far below in 2018 as compared to the prices in 2016

  • From January to July, price of green gram was more than the national average wholesale prices and during August to December, prices remained less than the national average prices.

  • In the case of Madhya Pradesh, Price remained very low from January to March. Thereafter, price started to increase and reached highest level at Rs. 4797 in May. Further, price of green gram in Madhya Pradesh gradually fell down till September and after that again started increasing during October and November.
  • Prices of green gram in MP were far below the national average wholesale price.
  • Highest Price recorded in the month of May while lowest price was recorded in February.

Wholesale Price of Groundnut in Major Producing States

  • There is a fluctuating trend in the price of groundnut during 2016-2018.
  • In 2016 and 2017, price of groundnut remained high during January to August as compared to price of 2018.
  • During the year 2018, price of groundnut declined from January to June, while from the month of July, increasing trend is recorded in the price of groundnut. In October, November and December, price remain stagnant at Rs.4500 per quintal.

  • In Gujarat, wholesale price of groundnut was hovering Rs.3500 per quintal to Rs.4000 per quintal during January to September.
  • Price was lowest in the month of April while highest price was recorded in the month of September.
  • The prices of groundnut were lower than the national average throughout the year except for the month of June.

  • The trends of groundnut price in Karnataka revealed that the price declined from February to July, further, it started to increase from August and remained higher till November.

  • Average wholesale price in Karnataka was close to the national average price during February to April, but thereafter, price difference has increased and price has gone down in Gujarat as compared to national average.

Wholesale Price of Mustard in Major Producing States

  • In 2016, there was a sharp increase in the price of mustard from May and reached to highest level at Rs. 4712 per quintal in November
  • In 2018, prices of mustard remained low during January to April as compared to price of 2016 and 2017. From April onwards, price of mustard increased slowly and remained relatively stable at Rs. 4000 per quintal in the remaining month.

  • Price trends of mustard in Haryana was different as compared to -national average wholesale price.

  • In the case of West Bengal, price of mustard was Rs.3696 per quintal in January. Price started increasing slightly in February and again declined in the month of March. But thereafter price of Mustard revealed an increasing trend till June.
  • From the month of January to July price was very close to national average price of mustard. But during July to December price in West Bengal was less than the national average price.
  • Lowest price was recorded in the month of March and highest price was in December.


Wholesale Price of Safflower in Major Producing States

  • There is a fluctuating trend in the wholesale price of safflower during 2016-2018.
  • In 2016, price of safflower showed high fluctuation throughout the year, the highest price being Rs.4791 per quintal in the month of April and lowest price was Rs. 1687 per quintal in the month of August.
  • In 2018, price of safflower was relatively stable during the January to July. Thereafter a fluctuation recorded in the price in rest of the month and reached to the lowest level at Rs. 1955 in December.
  • A close look of safflower price revealed that it witnessed high fluctuations in the last six month of the year.

  • In Karnataka, price of safflower remained relatively stable during January to April. Thereafter there was a slight decline in the price during May and June. But further, price of safflower in Karnataka revealed slowly increasing trends till December.
  • During January to July, price was very close to the national average wholesale price of safflower, but from August onwards, price of safflower in Karnataka went up far above the national wholesale prices.

  • In 2018, price is safflower was stable at Rs. 3100 per quintal during February to August in Maharashtra. Thereafter, it started to increase slowly till November but in December prices was sharply gone down.
  • Price of safflower was very close to the national average price of safflower during January to July. While it was above national average from July till November, and witnessed a sharp decline in the month of December price in Maharashtra were more than the national average during the same period, except for the month of December.
